About John Murphy
My wife and I, along with our six children, live in Medina and love the beautiful countryside here and in the surrounding cities in Northwest Hennepin County. Prior to starting my career in real estate, I spent 17 years in the technology media business holding various executive sales and marketing positions with two of the largest tech media companies in the U.S. - CMP Media and International Data Group (IDG). During my tenure at CMP, I helped lead InformationWeek as its National Sales Director to the number one position in the market and $150 million in sales. (Here’s my profile in LinkedIn).
My extensive experience in media, technology, and advertising - both in print and online - as well as my leadership of large sales and marketing organizations helps me bring a uniquely professional perspective and representation to the real estate business. My background in negotiations of multi-million dollar contracts with multi-billion companies as well as my market research and analytics background allow me to bring a level of pricing analysis most buyers and sellers are unaccustomed to in the Twin Cities.
To sell a home today, you need an advisor who can provide expert pricing analysis as well as make sure your home is well positioned in the market by way of the internet and MLS. Glossy post cards and fancy brochures do not sell homes. Homes sell homes, but in today’s internet driven real estate business, visual marketing is of paramount importance. If a home is priced well, beautiful photography and excellent copy will greatly enhance the likelihood of your home being sold in a reasonable period of time. Additionally, the home must be prepared, staged and merchandised. Merchandising? Most agents aren’t talking about this, but it’s critical to the experience a potential buyer will have as they walk through your home. Be sure to read my entry entitled, “The Pursuit of The Real Estate Truth.”
My role is to represent and protect you, my client, in a crowded and confused marketplace. I will advise you, position your property, follow up with prospective buyers, negotiate on your behalf and assure a smooth and successful transaction to closing and beyond.
The market is undergoing significant change. I believe the role of the real estate agent and the kind of agent people will be looking to hire in the future is in the midst of significant change as well. The days of a few “big” brokers and “big” agents controlling the flow of information about real estate are long gone. The successful real estate agents of the future will look different than the successful agents of the past. The flow of information to the consumer and the rapid changes technology is bringing to the business require a tech savvy professional who can deliver value and analysis - quickly.
